Freemasonry and the Internet PDF Print E-mail

The Internet can be a wonderful resource for all kinds of information. It's a place where a Mason seeking further light in Freemasonry can discover many excellent tools and resources. But while the Internet does provide many wonderful works about Freemasonry, it can provide plenty of mis-information as well. And unfortunately, things are not always what they appear to be online, so interacting online as a Mason requires some caution, discretion, and responsibility.

Information about and from many regular lodges is available on the Web as is information about and from many irregular and clandestine Lodges and resources. It is important to remember that in most cases, without meeting face-to-face, you have no way of knowing if the person on the other side of the screen is a Mason or not. Therefore, you should use discretion when discussing Masonic topics and providing Masonic information online. This is certainly not to say that a Mason should not be active online--quite the contrary! Just understand that many important aspects of Freemasonry are rooted in the face-to-face interaction among Masonic Brothers which simply cannot be done online.

Just be sure to consider how your actions online will impact you a Mason. Could your actions result in un-Masonic conduct? Could they result in you breaking your obligations?
